Just because you’ve been laid off doesn’t mean you’ve been laid out. Until just recently I was an IT contractor, and because it’s the nature of the job I got laid off four times in six years. Yup, you heard that right. I kept getting contracts at the same high tech company but they had a rule that the employment could only last a year, with six months off in between contracts.

What did I do when I wasn’t employed? Well the first thing I did was file for unemployment, and the second thing I did was get to work with making money online, and soon I didn’t need the unemployment checks anymore so I just wouldn’t send in the weekly paperwork.

But John you say…I can’t make money online because I don’t know the first thing about the Internet other than checking some sports scores, or surfing adult sites. Or maybe you’re gonna tell me that you do know a little bit about the Internet but wouldn’t know where to begin when it comes to making money with it. Okay, I’ll buy that for about ten seconds and then I’ll say this to you…You lost your job not your mind! Yes you can make money online with your computer and you can accomplish it a lot quicker than you think.

No, I’m not talking about MLM, or any other get rich quick scheme. I’m talking about real work (yes it takes a bit of work but believe me it’s not that grueling), using your mind, your computer keyboard, and your spellchecker. I’m not even going to ask you if you can do that because I already know the answer…Yes You Can!

So where do you start making money after getting laid off? With a blog of course, but not just any old blog. You see WordPress, Blogger, and others are free but you’ve got to learn how to use them and monetize them effectively before you just start throwing words out into the wild. Lucky for you, I’ve already tried all the bad, ineffective ways to make money with a blog so you don’t have to.

Look, I know losing your job is tough to handle. I’ve been laid off four times since 2000 but it isn’t the end of the world if you stare it down instead of letting it get you down. Take inventory of your resources (I guarantee you have more than you think), do a little research, and for god sakes take a lot of action. These are trying times but they are not impossible times. Don’t listen to anyone who says you can’t do it because what they are really saying is they won’t do it!
